“Art is how we decorate space, music is how we decorate time.”
The way that Jean Michel Basquiat describes how music decorates time feels in direct relationship to the way I experience music on an embodied level.
Dance has allowed me the power to express myself and witness the expression of others. It has given me a pathway to connect with those around me and opened my mind to several experiences/perspectives that I need to share.
I appreciate dance and its cross-contextual function in our world and humanity; dance is biological and chemical in the way it is a source of serotonin, adrenaline, and dopamine. Culturally and socially, humans dance to celebrate, to storytell, and for fellowship. I want to be a changemaker, who facilitates an environment that not only inspires art-making and celebration of humanity, but that might motivate anyone to also challenge and change our world. I need to choreograph. It's part of my blood.
